Citizens who have objections or suggestions about the proposed Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground Metro line can voice them at a public hearing to be conducted by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in the next few days.

“We will issue a notification calling for suggestions and objections from the public on the project,” metropolitan commissioner Rahul Asthana said.

MMRDA officials claim that they are hoping to issue the notification for a public hearing before the code of conduct kicks in by the end of this month.

MMRDA’s elevated Metro lines in the city have been riled in controversies. The first metro line between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar has been inordinately delayed while the Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro is stuck because of environmental issues. There have been criticisms over plans of an elevated Metro and many residents suggested building an underground transport system.

The MMRDA paid heed to this suggestion and planned the Colaba-Bandra-Andheri SEEPZ Metro line.

The agency gave a presentation to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan last month in an attempt to get state’s support to expedite the line.

The MMRDA was earlier contemplating building a 20km Colaba to Bandra Metro line. This line was to be underground for 10km from Colaba to Mahalaxmi and then elevated for a 10km stretch from Mahalaxmi till Bandra.
