Radiologists have opposed the state government’s plan of checking for pre-natal sex determination tests at radiology centres by fitting a device in sonography machines.

The scheme, a pilot project for which was launched in Kolhapur three months ago, is an attempt to curb female foeticide. “The plan will compromise a patient’s privacy,” Dr Kishore Taori, chairman of Indian Radiological Imaging Association said.

The association said its members will not buy the instrument, which costs Rs 40,000 a piece, and wants the government to supply it. There are 1,800 radiologists across the state and 1,000 in Mumbai.
