This defeats the purpose of the anti-malaria campaign undertaken by the municipal corporation in other areas.

“We took a review meeting and found that builders have been largely following norms. But it was a problem with government bodies, especially the NTC that controls vast tracts of mill land in Mumbai,” said a senior civic official, requesting anonymity for lack of authorisation to talk to the media.

“The railways had been a problem initially, but now they have begun fumigation and other measures, but the NTC needs to start implementing measures seriously,” the official added.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said: “We will be writing to the NTC and the railways to implement the guidelines as soon as possible.”

The municipal corporation had faced a lot of flak from all quarters for its failure to handle the unprecedented rise in malaria cases.
