Speculations about the possible realignment between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) sparked off on Thursday after MNS chief Raj Thackeray met the BJP's Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar.
The meeting between the leaders lasted for an hour, but sources close to both the parties said that nothing political was discussed in the meeting.
However, with the dynamics between the Shiv Sena and the BJP changing, the civic bodies where they are in alliance may also see a change and the MNS may find relevance once again. Raj Thackeray and Shelar are known to share warm personal relations too.
In Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), MNS' 28 corporators are being seen as to fill in for the BJP's 31 corporators, lest it decides to pull the plug.
While Shelar didn't respond, a BJP leader said, "We have not yet made up our mind about the alliance in the municipal corporations. The party has not yet given any mandate to anyone to hold talks yet."
An MNS leader, requesting anonymity, said, "Not too much should be read into it. It is too early to be holding such talks," referring to the talks of political realignment.
