“The Bhayander-bound train could not switch tracks from fast to slow due to a failure in the track crossing equipment at the Bandra-end of the Santacruz station,” said a Western Railway (WR) official. Consequently, the local train was reversed down the same track even as the Rajdhani Express was given a green signal to proceed. The two trains were moving towards each other on the same track when railway officials realised the error. The Rajdhani Express was asked to halt at Santacruz railway station to prevent a disaster. The unplanned halt led to bunching of trains on the track. Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO, WR, claimed there was no problem in services. However, railway authorites have ordered a high level inquiry into the matter.
