Kolaskar is the chairman of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

The chairman of the three-member search committee is nominated by the chancellor and has to either be a retired judge of the Supreme Court, retired chief justice of a high court or an eminent scientist of national repute or a recipient of Supreme Court in the field of education.

The letter says that Kolaskar does not fulfill any of these criteria mentioned.

The NGO’s letter asks the chancellor to reconsider his nomination. This is the second committee that has been set up to shortlist candidates for the post of University of Mumbai vice-chancellor.

The chancellor has dissolved the first committee.
