Record traffic at JNPT port

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has released figures of record traffic at the port in the last year. L Radhakrishnan, chairman of JNPT, made an announcement on the performance in 2010-11 at a function on Monday.

The function was attended by NN Kumar, deputy chairman, SK Kaul, chief manager (administration) and secretary, and other senior officers of the port, apart from officials of the private terminal operators, representatives of trade, and so on.

The solid cargo of 57.5 million tonnes handled by JNP was the highest in the country. JNP handled 64.30 million tonnes of total cargo in 2010-11 against 60.76 million tonnes last year. Both containerised cargo (56.43 million tonnes) and liquid cargo (6.79 million tonnes) had grown at 5.13% and 10.56%, respectively.

JNP handled a record 4.27 million TEUs of container traffic during 2010-11 surpassing the previous record of 4.06 million TEUs during 2009-10 by 2.1 lakh containers. Of the 4.27 million TEUs, JNPCT moved 0.88 million TEUs, NSICT 1.54 million TEUs and GTICT 1.85 million TEUs. The year-to-year increase was 12.9% for JNPCT, 0.34% for NSICT and 5.88% for GTICT.
