The consignment contains red sanders weighing about 9,590 kg, the international market value of which is around Rs 1 crore. The exporter had used the name of an existing exporter from Silvassa and bought a 20-feet container for entry in to the JNPT port.

Sushil Solanki, commissioner of customs (export), said: “Our vigilant officer Sandesh Jadhav noted discrepancies in the documents presented to him for entry of the container. The truck driver and another person who came with him were interrogated.”

Officials said the driving licence of the driver, the registration book and the number plate were all fake. “The duo was arrested,” Solanki said.
