Register online before applying to degree college, says varsity

Students seeking to pursue undergraduate courses in a University of Mumbai (MU)-affiliated degree college in the city will have to register themselves on the university’s portal before sending their application to the colleges, state the guidelines released by MU. However, students seeking admission in an autonomous institute in the city can directly apply at the college.

The pre-admission registration process will begin on June 14 and end on June 21. Students will have to purchase the admission forms from the colleges they wish to seek admission in before this process commences.

While the admission process will be conducted at the respective colleges, the applicants will have to attach a copy of their online registration form while applying in colleges. The pre-admission registration allows each student to apply to more than one college and for more than one course.

This year, the university has delayed the pre-admission registration by almost three weeks, as the process usually begins right after the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results are declared. Until last year, the process was handled by the Maharashtra Knowledge Commission Limited. But this year, the process has been assigned to a private contractor through a competitive bidding process, which reportedly resulted in the delay.

Students are anxious, as they have already received their Class 12 results on May 25. “When I went to colleges for admission, they asked me to register online first. Now, we will have to wait for the process to begin,” said Mitesh Solanki, a student from Parel.

Colleges have already begun selling the admission forms with several students making a beeline for colleges. “Most students who wish to apply at our college have already purchased the forms and the college prospectus,” said Naresh Chandra, principal, Birla College, Kalyan.
