But the police said later that it was a 'dummy' and did not contain any explosive substances.

A few locals informed the police control room after spotting the 'bomb' at around 11.45am. Around 2,000 gathered at the spot, the police said. At around 2.30 pm, the BDDS declared it was a dummy.

Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police for zone 9 said, "The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was summoned immediately after locals informed the police that a suspicious-looking object had been spotted in a garbage bin near the mall on late Wednesday morning. The BDDS has confirmed that the bomb was actually a dummy."

The police said that the 'bomb' contained seven wooden sticks wrapped in red paper and with several wires, connected to an electric circuit protruding from it,

"The dummy resembles the kind used in film shoots. The dog squad also did not find the object amiss. Also, we took an X-ray of the object to make sure it was fake," said Dighavkar.

Also, an unclaimed metal trunk at Charni road railway station set off rumours of a bomb, though nothing suspect was found in it, Churchgate government railway police said.

MJ Kadam, senior inspector of Churchgate GRP said, "We went to the spot and when we checked the trunk, we found it contained old clothes. We later found out that the trunk belonged to a coolie."
