An unidentified accused allegedly burgled a lottery centre near Dadar station ( on the west side) and made away with cash worth around Rs1.25 lakh on Sunday.

The police suspect the burglary took place when the shop was shut, between 11.45pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.

According to the Shivaji Park police, the robbers broke open the lock on the shutter of the shop’s rear entry-gate and entered the premise.

The owner of the lottery centre, Eliyas Hardwarewala, 54, said, “I shut the shop around 11.45pm on Saturday. When I opened the shop next day around 11am, I saw the drawers were open and cash was missing.”

On finding the shutter lock broken and the cash missing from the drawers, Hardwarewala approached the police and lodged a complaint.

According to the police, since other shops in the vicinity too were also closed, there was no witness to this burglary.

“Since our lottery centre is a franchise of a parent company, we are not allowed to carry our daily collection of money home.

Senior police inspector Suresh Unawane from Shivaji Park police station, said, “We have registered a case of break-in theft against an unidentified accused. Investigations into the case are on.”
