Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday defended his government’s move to rope in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-(RSS) affiliated Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini to train its employees and teachers. He said the institute has special consultative status from the United Nations and it was wrong to align it with any ideology.
The chief minister said the government has proposed to empanel the institute for the training of the government staff because it is was one of the best institutions in the state. “Social institutions and corporates from not only the country, but from across the globe, enrol their employees with the RMP for training. The leaders, elected representatives from other parties like the NCP and the MNS have attended the training sessions at the institute. The previous government, too, had held training sessions for employees at the institute,” Fadnavis said.
HT had on Saturday reported about the government’s proposal of training its employees at the RMP. The state is considering a proposal by the RMP for training programmes at its Bhayandar campus. The proposal has been sent to the Yashvantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration, the autonomous body governed by a managing committee of nine IAS officers in government service. The proposal has created a flutter in the state administration as it lays down norms related to the training of the employees.
Fadnavis, education minister Vinod Tawde, public works department minister Chandrakant Patil are the managing committee members of the institutions, according to its website, creating a conflict of interest. But Fadnavis, “We resigned as members of the panel soon after we were sworn-in as ministers. No conflict of interest is involved because it is an independent institution.” he said. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said, “The BJP has conspired to inculcate RSS ideology in government employees and corrupt the secular structure of the administration.”

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, the Congress also slammed Fadnavis for skipping a function to pay tribute to Kranti Stambha at August Kranti Maidan on Sunday — the anniversary of 1942 Quit India movement. Sawant said Fadnavis deliberately skipped the function because he believes in the RSS ideology, which opposed the Quit India movement. But Fadnavis said all the cabinet ministers were out in their respective districts as guardian ministers paying tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of August Kranti Din.
