Sena mocks ally BJP’s poll show in states, again

For a second consecutive day, the Shiv Sena poked holes in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance in four of the five state Assembly elections. Mocking the BJP for its motto of ‘Shat Pratishat BJP’ (100% BJP), the Sena said its ally wasn’t even clocking 1% in four of the five state, let alone 100%.

Mocking the BJP for its motto of ‘Shat Pratishat BJP’ (100% BJP), the Sena said its ally wasn’t even clocking 1% in four of the five state, let alone 100%.

The Sena, despite being part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), contradicted BJP’s claim that its good performance was due to PM Narendra Modi and his government’s policies.

“If that was the case, then why did people in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal not support the BJP, despite all their efforts? Must we believe that people supported Mamata and Jaya for implementing Modi’s policies correctly?” read an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna.

The Saamna editorial is seen as the views of Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, who is also the editor of the mouthpiece.

Saturday’s editorial also mocked the Modi government, saying it would, in the future, even claim credit for the success of whoever wins the US presidential election. “Tomorrow, the BJP will say its government’s policies led to Donald Trump’s or Hillary Clinton’s win in the US polls. Similarly, when Nawaz Sharif gets re-elected, they will claim credit,” said the editorial. “Parties win on the agenda of campaigning. Every state has different dynamics, which decide which way the polls swing.”

The Sena accused its ally of trying to claim credit for pushing the Congress out of states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. “The BJP left no stone unturned to oust Mamata and Jaya. But the credit for making Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Congress-mukt can’t be appropriated by the BJP. What is mine is mine and what is yours is my father’s, this mentality won’t help for too long,” the editorial said.
