‘Sena woman is getting 4 dead workers’ salary’

In a perfect display of political rivalry, Vilas Chavan — who was defeated by Shiv Sena corporator Shubhangi Shirke four times — alleged that she is earning money by drawing salaries of four conservancy staff workers who passed away 10 years ago.

In a perfect display of political rivalry, Vilas Chavan — who was defeated by Shiv Sena corporator Shubhangi Shirke four times — alleged that she is earning money by drawing salaries of four conservancy staff workers who passed away 10 years ago. The workers were a part of the civic-run Slum Adoption Scheme (SAS). Shirke, however, refuted all the allegations stating that Chavan was levelling them to conceal his frustration.

“Sena corporator Shirke formed a woman self-help group named ‘Shubhangi Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Santha’, in her ward and obtained contract to clean the area under SAS. Her records show 27 workers working under the scheme of which 4 have are dead,” said Chavan, in a press conference, on Thursday.

Refuting the charges, Shirke stated that she had produced the four persons before the media with the proof of identity.

“The names of the four dead persons stated by him don’t match with those presented before the media. Chavan is trying to malign my image as I have defeated him four times in the civic elections,” said Shirke.

Chavan said that he had filed a complaint in this regard with the BMC’s Solid Waste Management (SWM) department. Bhalchandra Patil, chief engineer of the SWM department, said, “He did not receive any complaint on the issue.”
