Sheena Bora murder: No material to justify my arrest, says Peter Mukerjea to CBI court

Claiming he was innocent, former media baron Peter Mukerjea claimed before the special CBI court on Saturday that he was wrongly arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case and there was no material to justify his arrest and continued detention.

“There is not a single overt act attributed to Mukerjea in relation to the crime,” said senior advocate Amit Desai, while arguing the British national’s plea for grant of bail.

The senior counsel pointed out that the only material that was brought by the CBI in reply to Peter’s bail application was a statement by his wife Indrani, recorded on December 15, 2015, in which she had stated she had informed Peter about Sheena’s murder immediately after her body was disposed of on April 25, 2012.

Desai submitted the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. In it, the CBI maintained that after Sheena was murdered and her body was disposed of, Indrani and Khanna used her email account for about two years to send intermittent emails to Sheena’s friends and relatives, including Peter.

Desai submitted this material in a charge sheet militates the case against Peter that he was aware about the murder, but did not take inform the police about it. “Why would Indrani try to impress upon Peter that Sheena was alive even after her murder, if she herself had informed him about the murder,” Desai said.

He further pointed out that right from the beginning of the investigation, Peter regularly visited, first Khar police station and later the CBI office. The FIR was registered on August 25, 2015, and Peter was arrested about three months later, on November 19, 2015. Special CBI judge HS Mahajan has now posted Peter’s bail plea for further hearing on Monday.
