Shiney Ahuja out on bail

A week after he was granted bail by the Bombay high court, actor Shiney Ahuja, convicted for raping his domestic servant, was released from Arthur Road jail on Tuesday.

Shiney’s lawyer furnished a bail bond of Rs 50,000 for the actor’s release. Shiney was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by a trial court on March 30 for the rape. He was granted bail by the high court last week.

He had filed an appeal in the court challenging the conviction and sought to be released on bail.

Justice AR Joshi while granting him bail had observed that his custody was not required for now but asked him not to leave the country without the court’s permission. ht photo
