Shop ransacked for stocking goods past expiry date

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers ransacked a store in Dombivli after being informed it was selling groceries past the expiry date.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers ransacked a store in Dombivli after being informed it was selling groceries past the expiry date.

Finding expired goods in the store, they brought down its shutters, informed the police, and handed over the suspect groceries to them.

Rajesh Kadam, president, Dombivli unit of the party, said, "Our corporator, Komal Nigare, got a tip-off that the Patel Low Price Super Market store was selling groceries beyond the expiry date. She first visited the store as a customer, noted the expiry dates on all the items, and informed us. Our party workers then entered the store and informed the police."

Owner of the store Bharat Patel said: "I am now out of station and I can't comment now."

RV Kardak, food inspector, Thane division, said, "We have sent samples to the state health laboratory in Pune. We will initiate action based on their report."
