“The remnants of cyclone Jal that crossed the Chennai coast has caused a low pressure area close to the Maharashtra-Goa coast,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, India Meteorological Department.

Weathermen have predicted more rain on Wednesday. “If the low pressure area continues, there is a possibility that rains will continue. We will check for its intensification and progress,” said Rajeev.

Stepping out of her Andheri office, Deepti Shah got drenched at 5 pm. “The weather has been dull since morning but I did not expect that it would rain. I thought the monsoon was over. But I guess I will have to carry the umbrella for a few more days,” said the software professional.

It’s only 12 days since the south-west monsoon has withdrawn from the city. On October 27, satellite images showed dry winds accompanied by decrease in humidity levels over Mumbai.

Just two months into the season, on August 17, Mumbai crossed the average annual seasonal rainfall of 2,294 mm. From June 1 to September, the city has received an average of 3,200 mm rainfall.
