Six out of 10 CMAT toppers from Mumbai

Mumbai candidates dominated the merit list of the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) when the results were released on Saturday, with six in the top 10 from the city.

The CMAT is the entry test for admission to more than 3,000 management schools across the country, and was held for the third time in this academic year in May. It has replaced various state common entrance tests.

Mumbai student Satyaprakash Dubey, who was ranked second, scored 350 out of 400, coming in right after Rohit Rao from Bangalore who topped overall with a score of 355. Chintan Kalla (346) who came fourth, Tejas Dedhia (345) fifth, Hanoz Chhoga (345) sixth, Kushal Katiyar (340) eighth and Aniket Mitra (340) at tenth were the other city toppers.

The national girl topper with a score of 335, who ranked 12th on the merit list, was also from Mumbai – Veenashree Vishwanath.

“Mumbai candidates did well because Maharashtra had the most candidates appearing for the exam,” said SS Mantha, chairperson of the All India Council for Technical Education, which conducts the national test for entrance into management institutes.

“I was hopeful about getting decent marks but didn’t think I would be in the top 10,” said Hanoz Chhoga, 24, who gave the exam a second attempt this year while still holding an engineering job.
