Slumdog star loses home in fire

Rubina Ali, 12, the child star of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire lost everything she had in a huge fire at Garib Nagar, a slum colony in Bandra (East), on Friday evening.

Rubina Ali, 12, the child star of Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire lost everything she had in a huge fire at Garib Nagar, a slum colony in Bandra (East), on Friday evening.

More than 500 huts were destroyed in the blaze.

“All my Oscar memories have been reduced to ashes," Rubina told HT.

The young girl had to spend the night at the Bandra railway station. Rubina’s family will now move into a flat by the Jai Ho trust set up by Boyle.
