“I have been coming here for the last three days with my clients. But most likely I will have to visit the office again. Every day, the server fails or the computer slows down after 15 minutes,” said advocate Ravindra Yadav. The department officer said the problem will continue for another month.

Before the registration process went online, an average of 50 registrations, related to property or power of attorney, used to take place at the office. Lately, the number of registrations that take place is 30. Otherwise, it is as low as 15 or 10, said a real estate agent from Chembur.

“Instead of 10am, work here starts at 11.30am. One sub-registrar office covers so many areas that a delay is inevitable. In addition, the technical problems slow down work even more, because of which people can’t get registrations done without accompanying a real estate agent, who would mostly have a tie-up with the officers here,” said Vineet Jain, who was at the office to get his property registered.

Under the centralised system, 114 offices across Maharashtra can manage registrations online. Within a month, rest of the 463 offices in the state will also have the facility, said Rajendra Shirsagar, deputy inspector general (IG) of the stamps and registration department.

“The various technical problems like server breakdown, network or application failure that we are facing are because the system is at a nascent stage. We are trying to resolve the problems soon,” said Shirsagar.
