Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter: Three Guj cops move Bombay HC for bail

Three Gujarat policemen booked in connection with the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case have moved the Bombay HC for bail, stating they have been lodged in jail without trial for the last five years.

The three moved for bail last week. ML Parmar, former DySP, ATS, Ahmedabad, Narendra Amin, former assistant commissioner of police (ACP), crime branch, Ahmedabad and Balkrishna Chaubey, former police sub-inspector, Ahmedabad ATS were arrested in 2007 by the state CID, which was initially asked to investigate the allegations of Rubabuddin Shaikh, Sohrabuddin’s brother.

In his letter to SC in 2006, Rubabuddin had written that his brother had been killed in a fake encounter case, while Sohrabuddin’s wife, Kausarbi had been missing ever since.

Parmar has also pleaded that his role in the case was very minimal and he was not part of the conspiracy.

The trial of the Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case had been moved from Gujarat to Mumbai this year.

Meanwhile, Amin, who is currently admitted to a hospital in Gujarat, has stated his deteriorating health as one of the grounds of bail.
Advocate Jagdish Ramani, who had been representing Amin, said that he has been hospitalised for some time now, as he struggles to breathe and needs constant medical attention. The bail application of Amin is, however, scheduled for hearing on November 27.
