The Thane police on Friday have arrested the son-in-law of Maya Bahulekar, who was bludgeoned to death at her residence. Police arrested Paresh Thakkar after the main accused, Anil Raibhole, named him as a co-conspirator during investigations.

"The accused told us that Bahulekar's son-in-law was involved in planning the murder. We found circumstantial evidence to support this theory and have arrested Paresh Thakkar and named him as one of the accused," said police inspector Hemant Sawant, Thane Nagar police station.
The police have obtained the call records of the two accused and are investigating calls made between them, before and after the murder.
The police said Raibhole confessed that he had killed Bahulekar because he wanted to steal a gold necklace she wore. Raibhole, a graphic designer, had incurred a debt of Rs1.5 lakh whereas Thakkar, who was a rickshaw driver, wanted to sell the property of the deceased.
