Patil assured the seven-year-old victim’s parents, who met him at Mantralaya, that strict action would be taken to ensure the accused was punished.

The parents had approached the Kalamboli police last Tuesday after the girl told them of the incident.

After medical reports confirmed rape, a junior college teacher, Firoz Ibrahim (32), was arrested. He has been remanded in police custody till Thursday.

Local Sikhs, however, held protests outside the school on Tuesday, demanding more arrests.

“The victim will be relocated to another school nearby with the help of the state school education department,” Patil told the parents.

The parents submitted a letter to Patil explaining their daughter’s version of the incident, according to which there is an accomplice in the matter.

The school management has suspended the teacher, but the school authorities have said his record has been clean. Parents too have come out in support of the teacher.
