However, students from other boards will be able to submit the online forms from June 22, with the admission website opening for students to fill in college and course preferences in the option form.

Though the SSC results will be declared on Friday, the delayed date for submitting admission forms is on account of students receiving their original mark sheets on June 27. “We cannot conduct any admissions unless students have their original mark sheets,” said an official from the education department, which announced the admission schedule on Thursday.

Students can submit their forms until July 7. The first merit list will be declared on July 12. To ensure that the admission process is completed on schedule, the department has this year decided to simultaneously carry out the online and the offline admissions procedures. “Junior colleges will surrender their seats to us after their offline admissions, and we will take into account those seats when we declare the first merit list,” the official added.

“It’s a relief that the admissions are beginning earlier that the previous few years, but it could have been even earlier. Why are they drawing it out so long?” asked Marie Fernandes, principal of St Andrew’s College in Bandra. “I don’t think we will be waiting until the last few lists because our seats will most likely fill up before that.”
