From the next academic year, schools found screening students at the time of admission will be fined Rs. 25,000, said state government officials.

The Right to Education (RTE) Act, which came into force in April 2010, prohibits schools from any screening such as holding tests or interviewing parents or child. If there is a second instance of a school found indulging in such practices, the fine would be Rs. 50,000.
