Labour minister Hassan Mushrif told the legislative assembly on Thursday that Bombay Dyeing (Prabhadevi) had not parted with one-third of the open land to be given to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and another one-third to be given to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada).

This is mandatory under state's development control regulations (DCR) for all mills undergoing redevelopment, whether private or belonging to the national textile corporation (NTC).

Mushrif was replying to a question raised by Jaykumar Gore.

Gore alleged that Bombay Dyeing mill was defunct. He said the government was misled as it was shown that the mill was still operational though it had been using most of its land for commercial purposes.

The minister said that only eight looms were being operated by 63 workers and Bombay Dyeing had paid all dues to the 1835 workers who had taken voluntary retirement.
