The state government has decided to ban the right-wing Hindu organisation, Sanatan Sanstha, for alleged terror activities. A senior home department official, requesting anonymity, said that a proposal to ban the outfit was cleared and would be sent to the Centre for approval later this week.

The official said that Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and home minister RR Patil, who were always in favour of banning the organisation, were instrumental in pushing the proposal. Patil did not deny the decision.
People linked to the Sanatan Sanstha, which has its headquarters in Goa, were allegedly involved in bomb blasts in parts of Maharashtra, Goa and Rajasthan, although the organisation has denied this. The Maharashtra ATS had recommended that the organisation be banned two years ago.
