Those residing in the eastern suburbs, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other parts of the state may have to face another power tariff hike. However, industries, which have been complaining of steep tariffs, may have something to cheer about.

State power distribution company Mahavitaran has proposed an average hike of 17.68% across all categories. However, industries in the state that have been demanding cheaper power are expected to benefit significantly in the future.
Mahavitaran is willing to reduce the per unit tariff by Rs 2.50 for the night shifts for the next two years. However, the industries may have to pay a little more for day-time supply because of the proposed hike.
Mahavitaran has asked the Maharashtra Regulatory Commission (MERC) to consider the suggestion to revise the tariff in its petition that will come up for public hearing in July.
Currently, Mahavitaran offers industry a rebate of 80 paise per unit for the supply between 10pm and 6am.
