School officials met the department on Tuesday to appeal against the order dated May 24. “We will start school term on June 13, students will not face any problem,” said Father Baptist Pinto, principal of the school.

The department will now conduct hearings, where school officials will present their case. Nearly 1,000 students study at the 78-year-old Mazagaon school.

On May 24, the education department had sent a circular to the school derecognising the institution after a student’s parents alleged that the school was collecting capitation fees.

The circular also stated that the school had failed to provide certain basic infrastructure facilities including toilets and drinking water.
