Only 3,400 odd of the 34,000 injectible H1N1 vaccines that the state had received from the Centre for immunisation of healthcare workers have been utilised.

Considering the October expiry date of the vaccines, the state will take a decision after August 15 on what to do with the remaining vaccines. The vaccines may have to be disposed off or returned to the Centre.
“We will ask all districts to tell us how many vaccines have been utilised by August 15. After that, we will write to the centre to ask the authorities what we should do about the vaccines,” said Dr VM Kulkarni, in charge of H1N1 immunisation in the state.
He added that the doctors did not seem interested in getting innoculated despite workshops held to sensitise them about the benefits.
