State to present RR’s dispute-free village scheme at UN meet

Home Minister R R Patil has a feather in his cap with this one. The man, better known for his move to ban dance bars, is being appreciated internationally for the ‘dispute free village scheme’, which he devised three years ago.

Patil said that the United Nations has taken note of the scheme and has asked the state to make a presentation on the scheme at its New York headquarters on August 9.

Pratap Dighavkar, superintendent of police of Pune (Rural), will be representing the state, making a presentation and participating in a discussion on the scheme in the UN.

“They want to get to know how this scheme works since the basic aim is to ensure that there is no dispute or fights in the villages in the state. And any kind of problem is solved through mutual understanding and village participation,” Patil said.

The state has seen 2.56 lakh disputes being resolved through this scheme in the past two years, Patil added.

Kumar is also said to have praised the scheme in his letter stating that it will be interesting to see how village participation is a medium in solving village disputes, according to Patil.
