On July 15, the government had issued an order stating that schools will not be able to increase their fees without consulting their Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the education department.

It also said schools will have to make details of their accounts available on their website.

“Now our emphasis will be on spreading awareness among the parents and telling them that forming a PTA in their school is crucial,” said Milind Wagh, state secretary of the Forum Against Commercialisation of Education.

“As an organisation we will try to ensure schools meet the conditions mentioned in the order.”

The Forum for Fairness in Education, another NGO is said they will wait and watch, for now.

“Our apprehension is that the matter will go back to court and the court will grant a stay on the government resolution (GR),” said Jayant Jain, president of the Forum.

“We are also worried that there is no committee in place to monitor whether the order is being implemented or not.”
