‘Sterilise or dispose of 3D glasses’

The civic body observed that most of the patients had gone to watch 3D films, making it likely they had contracted the ailment by wearing the goggles used to watch 3D films.

“We will issue notices by tomorrow to these theatres asking them to either dispose off the goggles after using them once or sterilise them before second use,” said additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar.

Rajul Patel, chairman of the civic health committee said that in the last week there have been at least 35 cases of conjunctivitis in the city and that the BMC should organise awareness campaigns to check its spread.

Several 3D movies have been screened in the last month, including Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Green Lantern.
