A government hospital each in the eastern and western suburbs as well as a sports complex are among the state’s grand plans for the city.
This was decided at the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) of Mumbai Suburban District, ahead of the civic elections scheduled for February 2012.
The hospitals — one that exists in Malvani — will be activated, while the other that is proposed near Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar at Ghatkopar will be ramped up from a 25-bed one to a 100-bed hospital. This will be done by bringing in an amendment to the current proposal where the government has given land to a builder on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.
Legislators who attended the meeting chaired by guardian minister Arif Mohammed Naseem Khan unanimously agreed to a proposal for a larger fiscal plan for 2012-2013. “Right now we have budgeted for Rs 136 crore, of which 72% has been spent. We have proposed a plan of Rs 296 crore for the next year considering that the Mumbai suburban district is one of the largest in the state,” Khan said.
Legislators also pointed to the problem in getting permissions for work sanctioned through their funds. Every member of the legislative assembly (MLA) is allotted an amount to be used for developing amenities such as public toilets, social welfare centres, etc. “There were complaints that BMC officials do not cooperate. So, we have decided that if legislators do not get an NOC from the civic body in 15 days, it will be considered as a nod, and MHADA will be the implementing authority for the work,” Khan said.
