A minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius was recorded on January 29 last year, which was the coldest January day in a decade, while the second coldest day in January was in 2008.

In the past week, minimum temperature has dipped from a high of 21.9 degrees Celsius to a windy and chilly 10.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

“The continuing cold wave conditions in northern India, persistent dry and cold winds and low humidity resulted in a drop of 2 degrees in the minimum temperature on Sunday. We expect the conditions to either remain as cold or there might be a slight increase in temperatures,” said VK Rajeev, director, IMD, western region.

The maximum temperature at both Colaba and Santacruz was 3 degrees below normal while the humidity was 44% and 39% respectively, making the conditions cold and dry.
