Tayade asked to go on leave

The medical education department on Wednesday asked Dr WB Tayade, director of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), to go on leave in the wake of the corruption charges slapped on him by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

The charges against Tayade include procuring ventilators and cancer detection equipment for hospitals under DMER at inflated costs from a Pune based company and forging his date of birth from 1950 to 1952 in the documents submitted to the state government.

“Usually such allegations call for suspension. But, if he is born in 1950, he should have retired by this time and thus we cannot suspend him. Suspending him will mean paying 75 % of his salary during the suspension period,” said a source from the DMER.

The source added that a departmental enquiry would be also be conducted against Tayade.

The documents submitted by Tayade as proof of his date of birth include a school leaving certificate from New English High School in Akola, a pass certificate of the secondary school certificate (SSC) examination and a 1993 domicile certificate.
