The state’s public works department explained this after Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya on Friday had questioned the decision of the department led by public works minister Chhagan Bhujbal to give a contract of Rs1,268 crore to Abhijeet Group which is being currently probed by the CBI in coal scam.
The PWD has planned the construction of a 176-km four-lane road between Akola and Washim for which both the state and central governments have given administrative approval.

The government invited tenders for the project in April 2010. No contractor has been given the work order yet, a PWD official said.
