‘There was no reason to refuse me admission’

Instead of giving up hope when the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) refused him admission to the health science course, Khan decided to take move the court.

“There was no reason for the DMER to refuse me admission,” Khan told Hindustan Times after Wednesday’s verdict.

“I had easily got admission in the science stream in Class 11. So I don’t see why I was denied admission in the degree course after clearing HSC with 68 per cent.”

Khan, who suffers from permanent loco motor disability of lower limb, had approached the Bombay High Court on July 31 after the DMER refused him admission saying he was more than 75 per cent disabled and thus unfit to pursue the course.

Happy with the high court order, Khan said he would work hard and prove that he is capable of completing the MBBS course.

“My disability is non-progressive. There is not going be any change in my condition. So why discriminate now?” Khan asked.

“I have given names of other five colleges too. I will have to wait till the list comes out,” Khan said.
