Eleven-year-old, Dilip Mhetre, died while undergoing treatment at Bhabha Hospital three days after he, along with nine others met with an accident at the Bandra-Worli sea link on March 21.
The toll of those killed in the accident has now risen to three. Two sisters—Chandrakala Mhetre, 45, and Bhanu Pujari, 40, were reported dead on the same day that the mishap took place. While Chandrakala died on the spot, Bhanu died in the hospital.
On March 21, Chandrakala and Bhanu, who resided at BDD Chawl in Worli went for a ride in a Toyota Corolla, that was driven by Ranjeet Wai, along with seven children. The driver lost control over the vehicle on a sharp turn on the sea link and rammed it into the divider killing Chandrakala on the spot and injuring the others.
Wai, who has been booked by the Worli police for causing death due to negligence, was also seriously injured in the mishap and is currently admitted in the intensive care unit.
“Wai, who works at the Toyota showroom, was driving the vehicle at a high speed to impress the children because of which he lost control and the vehicle turned turtle,” said a police officer.
