Another teenager, a 15-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries, while the third one suffered serious injuries, police said, adding that the accused fled the spot.

According to the Juhu police, the accident was reported opposite Lotus building at Military Road around 4.50pm.

The three victims — Ashutosh Robert, 15, Isub Khan, 16, and Malik Shaikh, 15 — were travelling on a Bajaj Pulsar.

While Shaikh was riding the bike, which belonged to his brother-in-law, Khan was in the middle and Robert was sitting behind him.

A speeding Swift Dzire suddenly hit their bike from the rear, making Shaikh lose control of the vehicle. “The trio was thrown off the bike. None of them were wearing helmets and sustained injuries. While passers-by took them to Cooper hospital, the driver fled,” said an officer from Juhu police station, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

While Shaikh was discharged, Robert sustained a fracture on his left hand with multiple bruises on his knees and right hand. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

According to the police, Malik was not drunk at the time of the accident.

The Juhu police have booked the unidentified driver of the sedan under Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death due to negligence), 337 (causing hurt) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life and personal safety of others), apart from relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The police said they would be scanning CCTV footage to trace the accused.

“The area is covered with CCTV cameras. With the help of the footage, we will catch the accused soon. As of now, we have not found any witnesses who may have seen the registration number of the car,” said Arun Bhagat, senior inspector, Juhu police station.
