A three-year-old girl, Tanuja Kapoore, died after she was run over by a school bus outside a school in Tilak Nagar, Chembur, on Monday morning. The police have arrested the bus driver, B Vannan, 42.

Police said Tanuja, who lived with her parents and two brothers opposite RN Gandhi High School in Tilak Nagar, was relieving herself outside the school when the bus hit her.
“Around 7.20 am on Monday, Vannan reached the school to drop off the children. While driving the bus out of the school premises he did not see Tanuja and knocked her down,” said senior inspector R Gavit of Tilak Nagar police station.
When he realised what had happened, Vannan, a resident of Ghatkopar, along with one of Tanuja’s neighbours, took the child in an autorickshaw to Rajawadi Hospital.
“Tanuja had major injuries below her abdomen and was bleeding profusely. She was admitted to the ICU of Rajawadi Hospital, but died two hours later,” Gavit said. Police said Vannan has no police record and was not driving under the influence of alcohol.
