A Rs. 30-lakh toy train installed at a Navi Mumbai garden on Sunday has run into controversy. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has termed the inauguration of the service by a local corporator as unofficial, and collection of a ticket fee for the ride as illegal.

On Sunday, the toy train was inaugurated by Congress leader Bhai Jagtap, who had been invited by local corporator Pranali Lad. On Tuesday, state and Thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik paid a surprise visit to the Vashi mini-seashore garden. “The municipal commissioner confirmed that there had been no official inauguration and that no permission had been given to collect ticket charges,” Naik said.
“The inauguration has not been sanctioned by us,” said Suresh Patil, deputy municipal commissioner (garden), NMMC. An inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
