Traffic plan chalked out

The traffic police have served notice to the Western Railway authorities to vacate the parking lot opposite Churchgate station as it congests the gangway and will make it difficult for pedestrians.

The traffic police conducted a two-day survey of the area around Wankhede and Churchgate station to ease congestion and manage crowds for the three matches played at the renovated stadium.

The traffic police are expecting more than 5,000 vehicles in the area on each of the three days, including the final on April 2.

The BMC will be creating a pedestrian walkway near the income tax office and have also asked WR officials to open the subway.

The car parking space for railway officers will also have to be cleared as in case of an emergency that parking lot could create an obstruction.

“We will be clearing the building material outside Churchgate station soon. The parking space outside the station belongs to the railways, so vehicles are parked there,” said Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO, Western Railways.
