The two accused, whose names have been withheld, were arrested on Thursday by district rural police and a total of 265 kg of meat was seized from their possession when they were transporting it to Mumbai from Nashik in a jeep, a police release said.

According to police, the duo, residents of suburban Govandi in Mumbai, did not posses licence for slaughtering, transporting or sale of meat.

They were booked under IPC section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle etc) rw 34 (common intention), relevant sections of Animal Preservation Act-1995 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act-1960, it said.
