Explaining the modus operandi, senior inspector Dilip Gore from Kurla government railway police (GRP) said that any offence in the premises of the railways is registered with the RPF.

For example anyone entering a restricted area, on railway property, is booked under the Indian Railway Act by the RPF. When the person is arrested, he is either sent to the lock up, or released on cash bail and then asked to be present in front of the magistrate.

“The duo issued fake bail bond receipts to passengers. Even if there was no case against them, the passengers were made to believe that they had been booked. To make it look more realistic, the RPF men also gave the victims fake hearing dates in the court,” added Gore.

"The scam has been going for around three years,” Gore said.
