Uddhav defends corporator who beat up civic staff

Talking to mediapersons at the Mayor’s bungalow, Thackeray said incidents like this would not happen if civic officials would perform their duties.

The Municipal Workers Union and Municipal Engineers Association members went on a strike on Tuesday demanding the corporator’s disqualification. Agaldare had allegedly assaulted BMC sub-engineer from Hydraulic department of G- South in Parel, Mahesh Pawar, on Saturday.

The strike was called off after civic chief Swadheen Kshatriya assured action against the corporator.

“There was no one in the vicinity and hence the civic employee is making such allegations on our corporator. Action should be taken only after detailed investigation into the matter,” said Thackeray.

“In fact, immediate action should be taken against all those civic employees who do not pay heed to the complaints made by the commoners and fail to perform their duties,” he added.

Mayor Shraddha Jadhav, too, defended Agaldare saying civic employees from the water department fail to react quickly to the common man’s grievances, which provoke the corporators.
