In a complete turnaround from his party’s anti-North Indian stance, the Shiv Sena’s executive president, Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday said his party has never made distinctions between north Indians and Marathi and Gujarati citizens.
“As far as our north Indian voters are concerned, we don’t distinguish between them and anyone else. When the BMC supplies water, it reaches every home, irrespective of where the person comes from,” Thackeray told HT.
In an obvious attempt to woo north Indians ahead of the crucial February 16 civic polls, he appealed to the community to consider his party for being there for them in times of need.

Thackeray went on to compare himself to the Gandhi siblings, saying that unlike Priyanka Vadera and Rahul Gandhi, he has been just to north Indians. “Rahul Gandhi has referred to north Indians as beggars. Have I ever insulted you like that?”
Refusing to reveal his stand on illegal migrants, Thackeray said tackling migrants is the state’s job.
