The Shiv Sena executive president is trying to remain positive and has been constantly saying that his father will tide over this phase, sources said.

"He has been telling us that the positive energy coming from the Sainiks' and well-wishers' prayers will help Balasaheb recover. His belief is so strong that he even asked that the Diwali lights at Sena Bhavan and Matoshree be switched on," said a senior Sena leader.

Another Sena leader said it was Uddhav who was trying to keep the mood in the house upbeat, although doctors said Thackeray's condition had not changed. "But he pointed out how saheb, who was so serious on Tuesday night, had started showing signs of recovery with a normalised heartbeat and blood pressure," he said.

Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who was speaking on behalf of the Thackeray family, said that his rate of recovery was a miracle of a sort and that Thackeray would be addressing the crowds soon.

"Apart from trying to directly give updates to his party loyalists, who consider his father as their messiah, he tried to give the message that he was the thread between them and the Sena chief. He wants to connect with the aam Sainiks and this is the right time when emotions are running high. Also he needs good wishes for his father's recovery," said political analyst Surendra Jondhale.

Experts observed that since senior Thackeray's condition turned critical, Uddhav had taken charge of the situation, while MNS chief Raj Thackeray was inconspicuous.

According to sources, Raj did not visit the Thackeray residence on Friday evening.
