UK losing out on talent, say affected students

As the academic year comes to an end, students finishing studies in the UK have more to worry about than just their results. Finding work and then getting a work visa to stay in the UK are at the top of many students’ minds following the change in visa rules. As the academic year comes to an end, students finishing studies in the UK have more to worry about than just their results. Finding work and then getting a work visa to stay in the UK are at the top of many students’ minds following the change in visa rules. Even those who found work before the rule came into effect, are ruing their gloomy prospects. “Britain doesn’t realise the talent it is losing in those individuals who have crossed international boundaries to come and study here at some of the finest universities,” said Meghna Majumdar who finished a law degree from King’s College in 2010.

“We have supported their economies with the exorbitant tuition fees we pay. Then, against all odds as expats, we find jobs, only to be told that we must exit the country in two years.”

“It is going to be a hassle especially for individuals from outside the European Union,” said Pooja Parsram, who is completing a masters programme at Cass Business School in London. “This is primarily because of the current financial situation in the EU and the lack of jobs with so many professionals within Europe looking for specialised work.”
